"Fatal Traffic Collision On The 6th Street Bridge"
Los Angeles: On Sunday, December 2, 2001, at approximately 9:10 p.m., a fatal Auto vs. MTA bus traffic collision occurred on Sixth Street near Santa Fe Street in downtown Los Angeles.
The victim, who has yet to be identified, was traveling westbound on the 6th Street bridge when he lost control of his 1992 Nissan compact vehicle. He entered the eastbound lanes of traffic and collided with an MTA bus traveling eastbound on 6th Street. The Nissan vehicle caught fire resulting in the driver being severely burned. The driver was able to exit the vehicle and collapsed a short distance from the vehicle.
Responding paramedics from the Los Angeles City Fire Department pronounced the unidentified male dead at the scene. There were several occupants on the bus at the time of the collision however, it is unknown if they were injured. The driver of the bus did not complain of injuries at the time of the collision.
